Era Helicopters hosted a meet-and-greet for local lawmakers at its Super Base facility in Houma on Tuesday, August 27 for an up-close look at the operations of one of the major transportation links for the local oil-and-gas industry.
Era Helicopters hosted a meet-and-greet for local lawmakers at its Super Base facility in Houma Tuesday, allowing them an up-close look at the operations of one of the major transportation links for the local oil-and-gas industry.
The Super Base is Era’s largest facility in Louisiana, which can accommodate 10,000-15,000 passengers per month and is home to a fleet of 30 helicopters. The $22 million facility opened in 2015.
Chris Bradshaw, president and CEO of Houston-based Era Helicopters, was on hand.
“Today is really about the community, and our involvement in Louisiana,” Bradshaw said. “In total, we have 400 employees in Louisiana, a lot of them right here in Houma.”
In attendance at the event were state representatives Jerome “Zee” Zeringue, R-Houma, and Tanner Magee, R-Houma, Terrebonne Parish School Board president Debi Benoit and Terrebonne Parish Superintendent of Schools Phillip Martin.
“This is one of the bigger employers in the area, and it’s one of the biggest industries here as well,” Magee said. “We’re here to see how we can help them grow and be the best they can be in creating jobs and increasing the economy.”
The small group toured the large passenger terminal and the even larger climate-controlled hangar where the large fleet is repaired and maintained. It provides 40,000 square feet for helicopter maintenance, with an additional 8,000 square feet dedicated to shops, parts storage and office space.
“It’s amazing,” Zeringue said. “You pass the outside of the facility, but until you see the aircraft and step into them and see the size of the building and how much is going on, it’s amazing what they’re capable of doing and what they can provide.”
